The Hippie Era: No Fashion Police

As the Hippie Clothing was about individualism, the young generation in the 60s was able to wear what they wanted.  It is the time when the youth rebelled against the rigid standards of society and would then wear clothes that are completely different from what was the socially accepted style then.  With the hippies, there is no one to tell you that you have no fashion sense or that you are wearing the wrong outfit.  You do not have to conform to any fashion style but your own.  It is the time for self-expression and about feeling liberated.  The Hippy Dress was a statement to this, as you only have to think about your preferences and your comfort when it comes to what you are to wear.

Hippie Clothing: Going Against the Norm

In the early 60s, the fashion dictated a style that embodied the look provided by Italian designers.  The Hippie Clothing style came as a huge shock.  Just imagine men going shirtless or at times with only a leather vest as they attend concerts and festivals.  The typical hippie attire for men is frayed jeans, simple shirt and the fringed leather vest.  Some would be in military jackets or vests.  Hippy Clothes were certainly about being the opposite of what was socially accepted.  For added shock value, men had unkempt long hair and grew beards, which was so different to the clean-shaven look the men were sporting during the 1950s.
